Winners of the Mathematics Challenge 2020–21

Congratulations to the winners of the Lincoln Mathematics Challenge 2020-21 and a big thank you to all participants! A very stiff competition made the choices difficult for the Competition Committee, and each place had to be awadred jointly to several winners. The Awards Ceremony has taken place on 13 February 2021 as an online event, which included a public lecture by Prof. Evgeny Khukhro “The role of Algebra in Mathematics“. The virtual audience gave rounds of applause to the winners, who received their certificates and virtual trophies from the Head of Lincoln School of Mathematics and Physics Prof. Andrei Zvelindovsky. The ceremony and the lecture were streamed on YouTube and the recording can be watched here. Solutions of the problems can be found here. The results are:

Awards Ceremony for Lincoln Mathematics Challenge 2020/2021


The Awards Ceremony for Lincoln Mathematics Challenge 2020/2021 will be held as an online meeting on MS Teams on Saturday the 13th of February at 15:00 and will last about an hour. 
 
All participants, their teachers, friends, family and members of the public are welcome!
As a participant you will receive a meeting invitation link. If you are a member of the public – please email to maths@lincoln.ac.uk before 12 February to receive an invitation to the online event. 
 
The ceremony will also include a public online lecture
by Prof. Evgeny Khukhro
“The role of Algebra in Mathematics”,
which will have interesting facts but also open the door to see a glimpse of modern algebra research. 
 
 

This year there will be no physical trophies – all trophies will be virtual as an image and will be sent by email.

 
 

 

 

 

Lincoln Mathematics Challenge 2020/2021


For a chance to win the first prize (£100 Amazon voucher) submit your typed or neatly written (and scanned in a single pdf file) solutions of the following problems to maths@lincoln.ac.uk with “Maths Challenge” in subject line. Please include your full name, postal address and email, as well as the name and address of your school. The closing date is 5 January, 2021. It is possible to win a prize even if you have not completed all of the questions, so you are encouraged to submit solutions if you do only some of the problems. The competition is open to all young pre-university people in UK aged 15–18 years. It is not open to current university students. See full Terms and Conditions. The Awards Ceremony has taken place on 15 January 2020 in Isaac Newton Building of the University of Lincoln, at the beginning of the annual George Boole public lecture in mathematics by Prof. Marcus du Sautoy FRS OBE. The audience gave big rounds of applause to the winners, who received their trophies from the Chair of Competition Committee Prof. Evgeny Khukhro. Solutions of the problems can be found here.
